The series kicks off with the human rights documentary Equal Means Equal. This film is directed by award-winning filmmaker and internationally recognized political activist, Kamila Lopez. Billed as the definitive documentary on the status of women in America, Equal Means Equal is Lopez’s seven year journey to learn why the Equal Rights Act (ERA) has never been passed. From the gender wage gap to sexual assault, from pregnancy discrimination to child sex-trafficking, Lopez reveals how present laws fail to protect women. Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, she presents a compelling argument showing how ratification of the ERA would improve the everyday lives of women working and living in the US. In an August 4th interview when asked about the role of women, President Obama said, “That’s what twenty-first-century feminism is about: the idea that when everybody is equal, we are all more free.” [2016, USA, Runtime: 93 min]

Equal Means Equal is being co-presented by American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Delaware ERANow.
