The first leg of an Equal Rights Amendment to Delaware’s Constitution passed 35 to 6 in the House and 17 to 4 in the Senate
In an historic vote, an Equal Rights Amendment to the Delaware Consitution was passed by the General Assembly. Given two previous failures in 2016 and 2017, the vote margins were surprisingly strong as was the degree of bipartisan support it received. As a constitutional amendment, the ERA must receive a two-thirds majority vote again in 2019.
Thanks are due to House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst and Senator Stephanie Hansen for their leadership in successfully guiding the bill to passage and to Delaware ERANow members for their efforts in letting legislators know about the importance of the Amendment to women and all Delawareans.
We are currently querying all 2018 candidates for the General Assembly, as well as those Senators not up for election in 2018, about their likely support for the ERA in 2019. Stay tuned for the results sometime after August 10, 2018.
